Two-Day Pediatric Sleep Intervention Certificate Training
-
This is a two-day, comprehensive course that teaches on a broad range of areas that impact sleep quality. The curriculum for this training comes from evidence-based research and practices and is intended for anyone interested in learning about the specifics for assessment and treatment of pediatric sleep conditions. This training explores the intersections of health, nutrition, development, sensory processing, and attachment on a child’s overall sleep success. Attendees will also practice using the Sleep Triangle assessment tool for evaluating the child’s sleep needs and formulating a thorough sleep plan.
-
Attendees will be able to administer the Pediatric Health and Sleep Screener and use it to evaluate and formulate developmentally specific sleep plans.
Attendees will be able to identify the three factors of analysis for the Sleep Triangle: Systemic Factors, Sensory Factors, and Behavioral Factors and identify each child’s unique sleep needs.
Attendees will be able to create a sleep schedule based on each child’s age and neuro-developmental stage that supports the recommended amount of sleep set-out by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Attendees will be able to define comorbid sleep issues for each of the five common developmental diagnosis categories: neurocognitive disorders, pre-term birth, trauma, genetic disorders, and sensorimotor disorders.
Attendees will be able to evaluate gut-health related sleep issues and analyze the child’s current nutritional needs a cross four areas: protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals to add nutritional recommendations to the child’s sleep plan.
Attendees will be able to evaluate the parent-child dynamic to determine the level of attachment supportive intervention to be included with the sleep plan.
Attendees will be able to discuss and collaborate with caregivers to develop a culturally-supportive plan that identifies the parent as part of the treatment team and expert in their family’s needs.

Trauma-Informed Sleep Intervention Training
-
The Trauma-Informed Sleep Intervention training explores how trauma is processed within the body and specifically during sleep. Attendees will learn how to assess the level of impact to the child’s daily functioning, specific interventions to reduce re-experiencing trauma during sleep, and how stress affects all systems in the body. Case studies discussed during the training include children who have experienced the following types of trauma: sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and medical trauma. Content within this training may be triggering to some individuals, descriptions of abuse within the case studies can be graphic.
-
Attendees will learn how trauma affects the four different systems within the body (nutrition, digestion, nervous system regulation, and sensory processing) to provide comprehensive assessment of each child’s trauma impact.
Attendees will discuss how the brain reprocesses trauma during sleep to identify potential triggers leading up to sleep events and how to help reduce nervous system dysregulation throughout the day.
Attendees will analyze three different approaches to trauma reduction (Systematic Desensitization, Exposure, and Trigger Removal) to determine which approach is best suited for each child’s unique needs.
Attendees will interpret four case studies examining the four different types of trauma explored in this training (sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and medical trauma) to practice assessing the trauma impact and building out a sample sleep plan for each case.

Behavioral Sleep Intervention 101
-
The Behavioral Sleep Intervention 101 Training is designed for pediatric providers that are new to creating behavior-based sleep plans. This training will cover the foundations of assessing habits and “sleep props” that contribute to awakenings during daytime and nighttime sleep events. Additionally, this training incorporates the Sleep Plan Builder Questionnaire to facilitate an inclusive approach to meeting parents’ sleep goals based on their preferred style of intervention.
The DSP training also explores sleep schedules, sleep amounts, and self-soothing skills by age of the child so that the provider is establishing reasonable expectations based on developmental skills. This training does not include intermediate sleep content provided in the Pediatric Sleep Intervention Certificate training and is only intended for providers that are interested in learning fundamental strategies for establishing healthy sleep routines.
-
Attendees will learn about the three foundational areas for establishing healthy sleep habits (sleep schedules, sleep routines, and sleep amounts by age) to develop behavioral sleep plans for families looking to increase sleep regularity.
Attendees will utilize the Sleep Plan Questionnaire to integrate parent goals for sleep with recommended sleep approaches based on the child’s age.
Attendees will discuss replacement strategies for sensory-based sleep soothers according to the 5 primary senses (touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing) and 3 “secret” senses (proprioception, vestibular processing, and interoception) to increase success rate with accomplishing sleep goals.
Attendees will evaluate four case studies to practice building out culturally inclusive sleep plans for four different families with varying beliefs about sleep and level of parent support.

Parenting by Numbers: Incorporating the Enneagram into Parent Support
-
The Parenting by Numbers training explores how the 9 Enneagram types influence and inform parenting style and efficacy. The enneagram is a personality theory that classifies people into nine different types based on that type’s core fear and core motivation. Providers that attend this training would learn about the traits associated with the 9 different types, the stressors that trigger each type, how those motivations/fears express themselves in parenting, and the interaction between types in a partnered relationship.
-
Attendees will learn about the nine enneagram types including traits, fears, and motivations to better understand how each personality type expresses itself in relationships.
Attendees will set parenting strategies based on the 9 enneagram types to better facilitate insight for the parent in understanding their experience of being a parent.
Attendees will practice identifying their own enneagram number based on the Enneagram Type Questionnaire to understand how to assess their patient’s number but also their own perceptions, as the provider, according to their personality type.
Attendees will evaluate three case studies, including the corresponding Enneagram Type Questionnaire, to assess the parent(s) number and evaluate how that parent(s) number is affecting their expectations of parenting and (in partnered relationships) how those numbers are interacting with communication and expectation in the parenting dynamic.
